Dawkins has always sought meaning, and now he is having to consider context, too,

;-/ I had to read "The Selfish Gene" in college, but it was only at the University bookstore and I was penniless. I sat and read it all and left ;-)

In Buddhism, which also works pretty well, this incarnation is considered a "heroic incarnation" as there are many nicer and easier worlds...

"And here we are. Here we humans are. We are stuck in the middle between the material cosmos and the ethereal creatures of the Fullness, the Aeons, because we come from the Aeons. We are their fruit. We are children of the Fullness of God. We are literally the fruit of the Aeons of God. And we have been seeded down here on this now material plane to remind this plane of the ethereal plane. This material existence that we dwell in, the reason it has death and delusion and ignorance and hatred, disappointment, sadness, betrayal, failure—these are all expressions of the separation from God."

Oh, I really love that song, Stuck in the Middle with You. Thanks for providing the link and the reminder. Same with the seond link--Have You Ever Seen the Rain. I'm singing at a party next Saturday, and I've added Stuck in the Middle to the playlist!

I forgot to mention that Dawkins coined the term "meme" to suggest that information / culture is reducable to discreet ideas. Even though I have always rejected Dawkins' hatred of God, I have closely embraced his idea of memes, and they are integral to the Simple Explanation of Absolutely Everything.
